5 lessons from the FC 27 Qualifier
Description
Five ideas from the Qualifier you can apply from your next match: reading the opponent, keeping it simple, transitions, the scoreline and the noise.
The higher the level, the less you are punished for not knowing a mechanic and the more you are punished for choosing badly. Chousita goes through the five things he took away from the Qualifier, with real plays: reading what kind of match you are in, sticking with the first decision when it is already a good one, making the most of the seconds after losing or winning the ball, adapting your risk to the score and the clock, and not letting one bad play decide the next ones.
What you will learn
- Use the first two or three possessions to find out whether your opponent presses you or sits back, and keep it simple while you work it out
- Cut out the extra action with three rules: if there is a clean pass, play it; if nobody steps up, dribble forward; if there is no advantage, reset
- Get transitions in order: after losing the ball, danger first and the ball second; after winning it, space first and speed second
- Decide how much risk is worth it depending on the score and the minute, not just on what you see on the pitch
- Break the chain of mistakes with one concrete question, “what is my problem right now?”, and one or two simple decisions
Who it is for
For players who play the same way against everyone, lose the ball trying to be perfect or make mistake after mistake after conceding.
When to use it
In any competitive match: at kick-off, to read your opponent, and every time the score changes or a play goes wrong.
