Description

Moves you from spotting the problem to solving it: a game plan, an adjustment that targets the cause and the right amount of risk at every moment.

The advanced part of “5 lessons from the Qualifier”. Spotting that your opponent is aggressive or that you are not progressing is fine; the hard part is knowing what to do next. Chousita takes real situations from the Qualifier and turns them into solutions: reading your opponent and coming out of the first few minutes with a game plan, adjusting a match by changing a single thing and finding the root of the problem, and managing risk after scoring, after conceding and in the final minutes.

What you will learn

  • Answer three questions in the first few minutes (where they press you, who leaves their zone and what they look for after winning the ball) and turn them into two or three “they do X, I respond with Y” rules
  • Adjust a match with a fixed process: problem, hypothesis, a single change and checking whether it works
  • Look for the cause, not the symptom: on a goal conceded, follow the chain from the full-back’s turnover to the space the defensive midfielder leaves when covering
  • Make the first decision safe after scoring or winning the ball, and kill your opponent’s momentum after conceding
  • Use possession when you are ahead late on and accept more risk when you are behind, because time has a price too

Who it is for

For players who already see what is happening in the match but do not know what to change, or change five things at once after one bad play.

When to use it

In the first few minutes against a new opponent, when you have gone a while without progressing and in tight endings, whether winning or losing.
