Description

Three tools to stop the spin ending in a goal: a manual centre-back, sprint jockey and the 2v1.

Your opponent receives inside the box, starts spinning on the spot and, as soon as you go for the ball, changes direction, leaves you for dead and scores. Gravesen explains how to defend the spin, one of the most common problems we see at the academy. In this first part, three tools: when to switch to your centre-back, how to follow the turn with sprint jockey and how to close off both exits with a 2v1.

What you will learn

  • Recognise when your midfielder can no longer get there and you have to switch to your centre-back to defend the 1v1 manually
  • Understand that switching to your centre-back does not mean diving in: keep your distance and react to what the attacker does
  • Use sprint jockey, the crab walk (L2 + R2), to move sideways and stay in front without overrunning the attacker
  • Control your speed with Analog Sprint and use the Jockey PlayStyle to recover your position
  • Build a 2v1 with second man press (R1): you close one exit with your centre-back and the CPU teammate closes the other

Who it is for

For players who concede when the striker receives in the box and turns, or who always defend with the midfielder and leave the 1v1 to the CPU.

When to use it

When your opponent receives with their back to goal near the box and starts spinning on the spot, looking for space to shoot.
