When to tackle in FC 27
Description
Position first, follow the movement and tackle when the ball is exposed: positioning and timing against the spin.
The follow-up to “Defending the spin”. The two Basic plan chapters: how to position yourself against your opponent’s turn (between the ball and the goal, at the right distance and watching the passing lanes) and how to recognise the moment to tackle, when the ball comes away from their foot after a heavy touch or at the end of a skill move.
What you will learn
- Position yourself between the ball and the goal, at a distance that lets you react to the turn
- Drop back a few metres to buy reaction time without opening up a shooting angle
- Cover the passing lanes too while you follow the spin, so no second player gets free
- Do not tackle just because you are close: if the attacker has the ball glued to their foot, a turn or a speed boost will beat you
- Spot the window for a standing tackle (circle): a heavy touch or the last touch of a skill move, as long as you are close enough to get there
Who it is for
For players who dive into the tackle as soon as the striker is close, or drop off so far that they let them shoot.
When to use it
When you are tracking an opponent who is turning with the ball in the box and you are unsure whether to wait or tackle.
